Kirby Adams (they\/them) is a senior with a major in psychology, a minor in
\nneuroscience, a minor in disability studies, and a concentration in human development.
\nA Charlotte, NC, native, Kirby is currently working at the information desk and used to
\nwork with Rovers at PLACE. \u201cI know for a fact that I want to be a marriage and family
\ntherapist, so being able to talk to people at the info desk, especially a wide range of
\nages, has helped me. I struggle with talking to new people, and having that exposure
\nand learning the background of why people are here and what they decide to do has
\nbeen helpful.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cFor my May Term, I did the Disney business course, and it was a little weird. For the
\nfirst part, we spent eight hours at a survival camp (still in VA), then an escape room,
\nand we watched Zootopia. Then we went to Florida, and I’m not gonna lie, I was drunk
\nfor most of it. We spent a lot of time in Epcot. As for the trip as a whole, it helped
\nbuild leadership skills, but it was also very cool to learn how Disney functions as a
\nwhole. We went \u2018backstage\u2019 and saw how they deal with sustainability, which I was not
\naware of. One thing I will note, we got smoked out of a ride, I think it was a water
\nrafting ride, and because of that, we got fast passes to the Guardians of the Galaxy ride
\nand went on it five times.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen it comes to overcoming a daunting workload, it’s helpful for me to see my
\nschedule. I always put events and assignments on the Outlook calendar and see what
\ntimes I have just for myself. I also recently got an ESA, a kitten, on campus. So I have
\nto take care of her, and that helps me too because I get to be around my cat.\u201d Then, for
\nour Freshman readers, Kirby says, \u201cDo not overload your schedule. When I was a
\nfreshman, I’d isolate myself and then just pack my schedule, but that was not healthy at
\nall. Also, once you\u2019ve finished your work, do some type of activity that the Colket
\nCenter gives out \u2013 I promise you, just go up to somebody and be like, hey, I want to be
\nyour friend, and then you\u2019re friends.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI hold a leadership position in AKX called New Member Head, and we just
\nintroduced the new pledge class called the Nu class. For my service project, we
\nrestored a farm last year that was damaged by Hurricane Helene. The Mu class we introduced last semester restored a cemetery. We are a coeducational group that
\nstrives to better our knowledge and environment!\u201d<\/p>\n
In a similarly healthy way, they are \u201cobsessed with plants, and I try to make different types of vases and environments for them, so they can fit in my room. I have a ton of Pok\u00e9mon terrariums.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cMy third favorite scent is basically a men’s cologne, but in candle form. My
\nnext-door neighbor has it, and I’m obsessed with it.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAs of right now, I am applying for grad school at Appalachian State. They have an
\nMFT program, I know so many people up there, and my uncle was in a frat up there, so
\nit\u2019s definitely my top school.\u201d<\/p>\n
