I struggle with talking to new people, and having that exposure
and learning the background of why people are here and what they decide to do has
been helpful.”

“For my May Term, I did the Disney business course, and it was a little weird. For the
first part, we spent eight hours at a survival camp (still in VA), then an escape room,
and we watched Zootopia. Then we went to Florida, and I’m not gonna lie, I was drunk
for most of it. We spent a lot of time in Epcot. As for the trip as a whole, it helped
build leadership skills, but it was also very cool to learn how Disney functions as a
whole. We went ‘backstage’ and saw how they deal with sustainability, which I was not
aware of. One thing I will note, we got smoked out of a ride, I think it was a water
rafting ride, and because of that, we got fast passes to the Guardians of the Galaxy ride
and went on it five times.”

“When it comes to overcoming a daunting workload, it’s helpful for me to see my
schedule. I always put events and assignments on the Outlook calendar and see what
times I have just for myself. I also recently got an ESA, a kitten, on campus. So I have
to take care of her, and that helps me too because I get to be around my cat.” Then, for
our Freshman readers, Kirby says, “Do not overload your schedule. When I was a
freshman, I’d isolate myself and then just pack my schedule, but that was not healthy at
all. Also, once you’ve finished your work, do some type of activity that the Colket
Center gives out – I promise you, just go up to somebody and be like, hey, I want to be
your friend, and then you’re friends.”

“I hold a leadership position in AKX called New Member Head, and we just
introduced the new pledge class called the Nu class. For my service project, we
restored a farm last year that was damaged by Hurricane Helene. The Mu class we introduced last semester restored a cemetery. We are a coeducational group that
strives to better our knowledge and environment!”

In a similarly healthy way, they are “obsessed with plants, and I try to make different types of vases and environments for them, so they can fit in my room. I have a ton of Pokémon terrariums.”

“My third favorite scent is basically a men’s cologne, but in candle form. My
next-door neighbor has it, and I’m obsessed with it.”

“As of right now, I am applying for grad school at Appalachian State. They have an
MFT program, I know so many people up there, and my uncle was in a frat up there, so
it’s definitely my top school.”

“Oh my gosh, I want to thank Madeline, Ryan, Tim Hofstetter, Em (my therapist), and
Ashley Fox.”

Juniper Rogers

Folks at ‘Noke Editor

Kirby Adams (they/them) is a senior with a major in psychology, a minor in neuroscience, a minor in disability studies, and a concentration in human development.
