\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Lilly Hussein is a senior from McLean, Virginia, majoring in Political Science with a concentration in German Studies. She is involved in YoungLife, Alpha Kappa Chi (AKX), intramural sports, the Catholic Campus Ministry, and the Honors Program.\u00a0 Lilly also tutors for the Center for Learning and Teaching.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u201cCollege has been transformational.\u00a0 My research advisor recommended some books, and then I’d say that my lessons from that are just being kind and loving everybody.\u00a0 Love God and love your neighbor.\u00a0 I try to live a life where I root my love in God, my faith in God, and I try to love everybody as best as I can.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0On Tuesday, I found Lilly with a pair of skis in her hand, so I had to ask her about her history with skiing.\u00a0 \u201cSome family friends named Jim and Janice ran this program called Rainbow Riders where they would take their two cars and bring a bunch of little kiddos up from DC to Whitetail, Pennsylvania.\u00a0 I did that for a couple of years, and then when I turned 13 I started being an instructor with them.\u00a0 I’d help the kiddos put their skis on and we’d ski together; I’d help them how to ski, and then take some of the older kids to the bigger runs.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u201cI came into college knowing that I wanted to be a political science major, but I also thought I wanted to go to law school, and then I had a law internship.\u00a0 I don’t want to read medical documents all day long so now I want to go into academia.\u00a0 Thanks to my kind professors, I\u2019ve been able to do some great research that\u2019s led to wanting to be a theologian and teach.\u00a0 I applied for some English teaching positions in Germany and Austria after post-grad.\u00a0 I don’t know if I’m going to get any of them, but if I do, that would be really cool because it would give me teaching experience and immerse me in the German language.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u201cI really like fishing and playing the guitar, though learning the music theory for the guitar was probably the most difficult part.\u00a0 I\u2019m now taking a music theory class where I\u2019m messing around with the piano some.\u00a0 I\u2019m hoping that I can transfer some of the skills I\u2019ve learned from playing the piano to playing the guitar.\u00a0 As for fishing, I started fly fishing a couple of months ago and I just love being on the river.\u00a0 There\u2019s birds everywhere, sometimes you see an otter, there\u2019s flies, a bunch of crawdads, and there\u2019s just so much life.\u00a0 It\u2019s so cool to see the creativity of God.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u201cI want to thank God first and foremost, my parents, my sister, my grandma Mimi, Dr. Garrison, Dr. Wisniewski, Dr. McLeod, Dr. Willingham, Dr. Peppers, Dr. Quaglia, Dr. Hancock-Palmer, AKX, the people at the gym, the Center for Learning and Teaching, the people at St Andrews, and the whole Salem community.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
