An exciting update is brewing for Theatre Roanoke College! Their production of <\/span>A Monster Calls <\/span><\/i>is approaching quickly, and alongside that we\u2019ve interviewed one of the cast members who will be performing in the show, Maggie Raker.<\/span><\/p>\n

After having a talk, she answered the following questions:<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Give a brief synopsis of <\/span>A Monster Calls<\/span><\/i>, what\u2019s the play about?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    \u201c<\/span>A Monster Calls <\/span><\/i>is a beautiful piece about grief and childhood based on the story by Patrick Ness. It follows Conor, a young boy, as he navigates his life while his mother battles cancer. As he does, his mind and imagination shape the world around him so he can heal and grow.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

    1. What role do you play in the production, and what is something you admire about this role?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      \u201cI am playing The Monster in this production! The Monster is not only an exciting challenge as an actor, but a special role in the story. I get the honor of helping guide Conor, and the audience, through the turmoil presented.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

      1. What is the importance of TRC showing this production, and what goals does the department have by presenting it?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        \u201cThis play is both an emotional and physical challenge for our department that has been a joy to rise to. Its portrayal of grief connects with so many in such personal ways, no matter our age or background. Getting to move as a unit and explore the internality of the journey is so cathartic for us and (we hope) our audience will feel the same.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

        1. Why should audiences come see the show?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          \u201cThis show has something for everyone!! It\u2019s sad, but it\u2019s also exciting and funny at times. The emotional depth of the piece is truly inspiring, and welcomes anyone in.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

          A Monster Calls <\/span><\/i>will be in the Olin Theatre starting on Thursday, February 20th and Saturday, February 22nd at 7:30PM alongside Friday, February 21st at 6:00PM. Please be warned that this production contains depictions of bullying as well as reactions to grief\/death.<\/span>
