\u00a0Joshua McClary is a senior from Charlotte, North Carolina, double-majoring in Marketing and Business Administration.\u00a0 He plays for the men\u2019s basketball team as a point guard and wears jersey #04.\u00a0 McClary contributes to the team off the court as well when he helps with game operations out of season.\u00a0 He is also a part of Maroon Ambassadors.\u00a0 His plan for after graduation is to return for the MBA program and possibly help out with the team as much as he can.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0When it came to why he chose Roanoke College, McClary said \u201cI planned to be on the team here and when I visited the campus really stood out to me.\u00a0 The environment<\/span><\/p>\n

of everything, it was pretty cool and felt familiar in a way.\u00a0 Like I felt comfortable enough to come here and felt like everybody had my back.\u00a0 That feeling has definitely continued through my time here, and the connections I’ve made here have been really nice.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u201cOn my May Term last May, we went to a Salem Red Sox game which was pretty cool.\u00a0 I think it was my first time going so that’s awesome.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u201cI started playing basketball around second grade so for my whole life basically.\u00a0 I kind of tried every sport when I was really young, and once it was like fourth grade I stopped playing every sport except basketball.\u00a0 One of my main reasons for choosing basketball was its being inside and the air conditioning was nice.\u00a0 I wasn’t a big outside sports person in the first place, so I think that’s probably why I picked basketball.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u201cI collect vinyls. I really like music so that’s my way of showing that.\u00a0 I have three of J. Cole, two of Giveon, and a wide range of others.\u00a0 It’s nothing crazy right now because I just started about a year ago so I’m gonna try to expand more as time goes by.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u201cAdjusting to college basketball was the biggest challenge for me.\u00a0 It’s hard to adjust to anything, especially coming to college in general, so just trying to get myself out of my shell a little bit more was the biggest adjustment I had to make.\u00a0 On the team, everybody contributes equally.\u00a0 There are some people on our team who are seen more as leaders, just because we have more experience underneath our belt.\u00a0 But I think the thing that makes us special is we don’t look at one person for everything.\u00a0 We can all go to each other, and it really helps us along the way.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u201cMy third favorite scent is probably mahogany teakwood because my mom uses it a lot for hand soaps.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u201cMy dream job as a kid, a bit clich\u00e9, was probably to be an NBA player.\u00a0 Also, I think everybody goes through the astronaut phase a little bit.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u201cI think I’m just somebody that anybody can come talk to.\u00a0 I want to be known as a person who’s open to conversation with anybody, and somebody you could always feel safe around.\u00a0 Like, if you need a friend, I\u2019ll always be there.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u201cI want to thank my parents, sister \u2013 she always helps me find the light in everything, every teammate that I’ve had \u2013 especially the ones that I came in with like Joshua Morse and Zachary Rosenthal, Professor Hagadorn \u2013 she’s been a big fan of everything we do, and Kenny Belton \u2013 he’s an old basketball player here and he always texts me and helps me with things.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
