\u00a0\u00a0Mary Lynn Aylor is a senior from Orange, Virginia, majoring in Biology and she is hoping to do a masters in Education next year.\u00a0 She is an RA for Bartlett Hall\u2019s third floor and a Student DJ for WRKE.\u00a0 Mary Lynn hosts the ever-entertaining \u201cBook Club\u201d show, where she talks about her favorite books, new and old, along with tailored music.\u00a0 You can find more information about her show at the show\u2019s Instagram, @bookclubwrke.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u201cThrough being a host for WRKE, you learn time management by balancing classes and a job to make sure you have time for your personal projects.\u00a0 I see the radio show as a creative outlet.\u00a0 It’s taught me that I need to make time in my schedule for planning, both for my classwork and the show.\u00a0 I have a big playlist of clean songs that I know I can play and I’ll talk about what I’ve been reading lately.\u00a0 I really like it when I can plan ahead and have a theme for the show.\u00a0 For Halloween, I did creepy books like Frankenstein, which is my favorite book.\u00a0 I\u2019ve also improved on my public speaking and enunciation.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Mary Lynn\u2019s dream job as a child was a Mythbuster.\u00a0 \u201cI have always loved science, and I really liked when they blew things up.\u00a0 Then I discovered how much physics and math are involved and decided that wasn\u2019t for me.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u201cI’ve had so many different opportunities at Roanoke College my INQ classes.\u00a0 I know at some point I want to work in education.\u00a0 I’ve learned how many different paths there can be such as working in a classroom, writing a textbook, or working in a museum or a national park.\u00a0 Just learning about the opportunities that are available has been really big for me.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u201cI love art!\u00a0 When I was a kid, I thought if I couldn’t be a myth buster, I wanted to be an art teacher.\u00a0 There was a time in high school when I didn\u2019t know what to do with my life and I somehow switched to biology, which I absolutely love.\u00a0 And I appreciate having art a creative outlet now, instead of thinking of it as something I have to perfect for a career.\u00a0 I now see it more as a form of play and in my education classes, I’ve learned about how important it is to play to learn.\u00a0 That\u2019s why theater in high school was so fun for me, it wasn’t just the performing.\u00a0 I got to play pretend with people for a couple of hours every week, as well as doing the final show.\u00a0 That was so much more enjoyable!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Mary Lynn loves the library, so she wanted to share her go-to two-swipe order from Rooney\u2019s.\u00a0 \u201cI always get a large ice mocha latte, a smoothie, juice, a muffin, a bag of chips, and a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich.\u00a0 It’s my breakfast and lunch most days.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u201cI want to thank my parents, my biggest supporters.\u00a0 I also want to thank Dr Lassiter, my advisor for my last year.\u00a0 I love my head RA, Jayde.\u00a0 She gets me through every day.\u00a0 Finally, I would like to thank Roanoke College for providing so many fun opportunities for discovery and exploration.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
