These past three months in the United Kingdom have been pretty tumultuous, as evidenced by the dramatic resignations of prime ministers Boris Johnson and Liz Truss. Though both resigned, there was a clear push from prominent members of the British Conservative Party for both to respectively leave office. Boris Johnson was Prime Minister from 2019 to 2022 and was followed by Liz Truss, who only lasted 44 days in office — a very chaotic 44 days albeit. Boris Johnson was pushed out following the partygate scandal concerning the illegal parties he and his colleagues held on 10 Downing Street during the COVID-19 restriction period. During her short period as Prime Minister, Liz Truss made some very questionable economic decisions and pushed her tax-cutting plan, which sent the UK into an economic crisis. The United Kingdom was sliding into a recession when Truss took office, but her tax cuts sparked a bond market revolt which sent the country into a true economic crisis. This economic crisis leaves newly appointed Rishi Sunak with a large burden on his shoulders entering into his new position as Prime Minister.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n All three of these Prime Ministers are members of the Conservative Party, the Tories, in the house of commons who have a majority. The UK has a parliamentary system with the conservatives currently holding a majority of MP (member of parliament) spots with 357 representatives. In the UK, whichever party has the majority in the House of Commons gets to choose the Prime Minister from within the MP\u2019s.
