The Roanoke women\u2019s basketball team has had a record-breaking season with 20 wins and ended the season ranked third in the ODAC conference. With the ODAC tournament beginning this Friday, February 25<\/span>th<\/span>, highlighting two of the team\u2019s seniors is a great way to celebrate their incredible season.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ayanna Scarborough is a post guard for the women\u2019s basketball team. Scarborough averaged a solid 6.4 points per game this season, shooting 49.5% from the field. In the Maroon Madness matchup against the Lynchburg Hornets, Scarborough assisted the team into an outstanding win with 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. Her pre-game meal is a spicy Chick-Fil-A sandwich with ranch and buffalo sauce, enjoying rap as pre-game hype music. Scarborough chose Roanoke College for its facilities, environment, and opportunities. When asked about her greatest accomplishment during her time as a Roanoke College athlete, Scarborough said, \u201cWe have had many accomplishments from beating Emory & Henry my freshman year to going to the ODAC championship my junior year. But the greatest accomplishment has to be breaking 20 wins this year, which hasn\u2019t been accomplished by Roanoke women\u2019s basketball in a long time\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Renee Alquiza is a post forward, averaging 10.7 points per game and shooting 47.5% from the field. Alquiza leads the ODAC in 3-point percentage at 48.3%. In recent games, Alquiza has assisted the team in intense wins against first-in-the-ODAC Washington and Lee, with 10 points and 3 rebounds, and Lynchburg with 13 points and 5 rebounds. Her stellar performance was recently rewarded with being named to the All-ODAC first team. Alquiza\u2019s pre-game meal consists of Goldfish and Sprite with a straw. Her hype song is \u201cDreams and Nightmares\u201d by Meek Mill. Alquiza chose Roanoke College for the facilities, specifically the Cregger Center, and the team dynamic. \u201cMy greatest accomplishment while playing for Roanoke women\u2019s basketball was making it to the ODAC Championship last season. Our team works hard to compete in a very competitive conference and I love seeing the hard work pay off\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We are sending the best of luck to Scarborough and Alquiza, as well as the entire women\u2019s basketball team, for their quarterfinal game on Friday, February 25<\/span>th<\/span> at 8 p.m. in the Salem Civic Center.
