{"id":6079,"date":"2021-04-23T12:00:05","date_gmt":"2021-04-23T17:00:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brackety-ack.com\/?p=6079"},"modified":"2021-04-23T12:00:05","modified_gmt":"2021-04-23T17:00:05","slug":"alumni-panel-honors-fulbright-program-participants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brackety-ack.com\/?p=6079","title":{"rendered":"Alumni Panel Honors Fulbright Program Participants"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Written by Bradley Bommarito<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On Saturday, April 17, RC\u2019s Office of Alumni and Family Relations hosted an interactive panel about RC student experiences with the Fulbright Program.\u00a0 Titled \u201cNOKELive: An Insider&#8217;s Look at the Fulbright Program,\u201d this live event hosted via YouTube allowed several alumni who have been involved in the Program an opportunity to reflect on this internationally renowned honor and to share tips with students who are aspiring to earn Fulbright Awards during their time at the college.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tessa Sydnor \u201916, Kathleen Ouyang \u201913, Brandon Mayer \u201915, and Brieanah Gouveia \u201917 were panelists.\u00a0 The panel lasted from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.\u00a0 According to the event website, the Fulbright Program is the U.S. government&#8217;s flagship international educational exchange program.\u00a0 Approximately 380,000 American students have participated in the program since its beginning in 1946.\u00a0 The program operates in 140 nations throughout the world, and approximately 1,900 U.S. students enjoy this honor each year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Professor Jenny Rosti, RC\u2019s Director of Major Scholarships and Fellowships, Roanoke College has consistently produced one or more Fulbright Scholars since 2013.\u00a0 The Fulbright Program recognized Roanoke College as a Top Producer in the 2017-2018 academic year.\u00a0 According to a February press release from the College, 19 Maroons have been named as Fulbright scholars and 13 have earned Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarships in the past several years.
