This year marks the 78th annual Golden Globe Awards and the first to be hosted in a pandemic. Despite the changes that the world has faced, our society continues to honor deserving people for their hard work within the entertainment business \u2013 from recognizing films that strike people in the core of their feelings, such as \u201cNomadland\u201d (2021), to gifting awards to important actors who have now left us, such as the recently-passed Chadwick Boseman (\u201cBlack Panther,\u201d \u201c42,\u201d \u201cMarshall\u201d and the recent \u201cMa Rainey\u2019s Black Bottom\u201d).<\/span><\/p>\n

As usual, the first bracket for the Golden Globes is \u201cBest Picture Drama.\u201d This year\u2019s nominees have sparked many different feelings in the hearts and minds of their audiences. A popular title that was recently released is the aforementioned \u201cNomadland.\u201d Created by Chlo\u00e9 Zhao (nominated for Best Director and Screenplay), \u201cNomadland\u201d is the story of a van-living woman (played by Best Actress nominee Frances McDormand) who has lost everything and embarks on a journey through the American West.<\/span><\/p>\n

Another stand-out film is \u201cThe Father.\u201d From the promising minds of Florian Zeller and Christopher Hampton (nominated for Best Screenplay), \u201cThe Father\u201d is the story of an aging father (Anthony Hopkins, Best Actor nominee) who refuses the help of his daughter even as he struggles with his changing mind and reality.<\/span><\/p>\n

Yet another noteworthy nominee is \u201cMank,\u201d a film directed by David Fincher (Best Director nominee) and featuring the talent of Gary Oldman (Best Actor nominee) and Amanda Seyfried (Best Supporting Actress nominee). \u201cMank\u201d is the tale of an alcoholic critic rushing to finish a screenplay before life around him crumbles.<\/span><\/p>\n

This year\u2019s films also feature the talent of other great performers, such as nominees for Best Actor Chadwick Boseman (\u201cMa Rainey\u2019s Black Bottom\u201d), Riz Ahmed (\u201cSound of Metal\u201d) and Tahar Rahim (\u201cThe Mauritanian\u201d) and nominees for Best Actress Viola Davis (\u201cMa Rainey\u2019s Black Bottom), Andra Day (\u201cThe United States vs Billie Holiday\u201d), Vanessa Kirby (\u201cPieces of a Woman\u201d) and Carey Mulligan (\u201cPromising Young Woman\u201d).<\/span><\/p>\n
