With COVID-19 ever present, conditions aren’t exactly ripe for finding romance. Even for those who already have a significant other, not all of them can be present with their partners for the holiday as distance is maintained. Regardless, one thing remains the same (besides most people running to stores the day after for the sweet victory of discount chocolates) – cheesy romantic movies.

Are these movies so popular because of how corny they are? Or maybe because everyone can find humor in them when they watch them with close friends or their own partners. Either way, this big day of red and pink seems to keep spewing out more and more films that most people seem to watch at the expense of their own sanity sometimes. So here’s a list of the “best”— which stands for cheesy and even straight up ridiculous – Valentine’s Day movies for you and your close friends or significant other to enjoy together. With help from the rankings of “Rotten Tomatoes” and reviews from “IMDB,” this list is created with cheesiness in mind. With appearances by Heath Ledger, Julia Stiles and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, it features the ever-famous trope of bad boy and good girl, along with huge communication errors. It holds a 69% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 7.3/10 on IMDB.

However, another movie does contend for the most popular usage of the bad boy and good girl trope – the unforgettable musical “Grease” (1978). With 7.2/10 stars and a 75% Rotten Tomatoes score, the performances of John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John make this movie worthwhile during Valentine’s – not discrediting, of course, the beautiful songs included.

Written by Mateo Biggs This year, Valentine’s Day will look a little different.
