I give pretty good relationship advice. If you\u2019re thinking, \u201cBut Joy, you\u2019ve been single for so long. How do you know anything about love?\u201d First of all, don\u2019t call me out like that. Secondly, that\u2019s exactly the reason <\/span>why<\/span><\/i> I\u2019m qualified to advise others. When cupid is depicted, he\u2019s always alone. It has nothing to do with the fact that he\u2019s a baby. It\u2019s because single people give better advice when it comes to love.<\/span><\/p>\n

You don\u2019t need to be a player to be a coach, you just have to know the game, and <\/span>single people know the game<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Your single friends have an outside view of your relationship that you can only get in hindsight. They have no biases formed in their current relationship because they\u2019re not in one. Your friend in a relationship can\u2019t help but bring up what they did\/would do with John\/Jane Doe. It\u2019s not their fault, love can make people oblivious.<\/span><\/p>\n

Now that you\u2019re ruled out asking your coupled friends, you must decide which single friend to go to for advice. This can be tricky. You don\u2019t want to ask a newly single friend, they may be too bitter still.<\/span><\/p>\n

In fact, avoid any friend who might say things like \u201clove is a lie\u201d or \u201cI\u2019m going to die alone with my cats.\u201d You need a friend who loves love. One who has some experience or has at least seen an extensive amount of romantic comedies. (It\u2019s preferable that they have a Communications or Psychology major — but not necessary.)<\/span><\/p>\n

To all my fellow advice givers, keep in mind that your friends may not follow your advice — regardless of how genius it may be. As I previously mentioned, people in love are oblivious. Love is strange and unpredictable, is blind.<\/span><\/p>\n

If we\u2019ve learned anything from <\/span>Sex and the City<\/span><\/i> and Carrie Bradshaw, it\u2019s that even the experts aren\u2019t perfect. However, we also learned from <\/span>Sex and the City<\/span><\/i> that your friends are there for you through breakups, hookups, flirtations, and the real thing.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
