{"id":4865,"date":"2019-11-22T08:00:12","date_gmt":"2019-11-22T08:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bracketyackrc.wpengine.com\/?p=4865"},"modified":"2019-11-22T08:00:12","modified_gmt":"2019-11-22T08:00:12","slug":"theatre-rc-takes-on-shakespeare","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brackety-ack.com\/?p=4865","title":{"rendered":"Theatre RC Takes on Shakespeare"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Written by Jack Miller<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Roanoke College\u2019s theater department put on for their fall performance, a rendition of William Shakespeare\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Midsummer Night\u2019s Dream. <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This play takes the crown as Shakespeare\u2019s most famous comedy and follows the events leading up to a triple marriage. The couples, Hermia (Charlotte Gaston, freshman) and Lysander (Ryan Haden, senior), and Helena (Kayla Coursey, senior) and Demetrius (Jasey Roberts, sophomore) find themselves all mixed up after mischievous sprite, Puck (Claire McDonald, sophomore), uses the nectar of a flower to make them fall in love. What follows is a comedic romp through the Athenian woods with innuendoes, height jokes, and general mischief galore.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">RC\u2019s specific production of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Midsummer Night\u2019s Dream <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">involves a set constructed by students that boasts a forest appeal, complete with a tree, flowers, and rocks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While many adaptations of this production exist, Theatre RC decided to follow a traditional adaptation of the play. All the costumes, actions, and dialogue are original to Shakespeare\u2019s design. Although the dialogue is spoken in classic Shakespearean tempo, the blocking and production help to fill in the gaps for those who may not completely understand the dialect.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The theater department did a tremendous job with this production. The play is not only interesting and emotional, but hilarious and true to Shakespeare\u2019s original creation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Midsummer Night\u2019s Dream <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is playing at Roanoke College\u2019s Olin Theater, Nov. 22 and 23 at 7:30 P.M., lasting approximately two and a half hours.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Written by Jack Miller Roanoke College\u2019s theater department put on for their fall performance, a rendition of William Shakespeare\u2019s A Midsummer Night\u2019s Dream.
