When I stepped on campus in August, I was impressed by the new paint on the walls and the addition of the burrito to the menu, but the staff didn’t stop there. I took the time this week to talk about a few of the new changes with Cavern manager, Terri Saunders.

Starting just recently, each Monday there will be sushi on the menu in Cavern. If you haven’t had the sushi yet, go check it out! I was so excited about this and Terri was too. She told me, “It’s a great addition to our college. I mean, the kids love it.” She said that the staff get 200 sushi plates each Monday, 100 for lunch and 100 for dinner. “We can’t keep it. Within an hour at lunch, it’s gone.” Of course, because of the high demand, the Cavern staff would love to increase the amount of sushi they provide. “It’s a price thing,” Terri told me, “and it’s about keeping it safe, we have to have room to store it.”

I learned while talking to Terri that some of the new changes in Cavern aren’t completely visible to the eye. She told me, “I’m not really a red meat person, but the hamburgers this year are fresh and they are just awesome.” There are also new fruit and vegetable options. With the use of fresh ingredients this year, as students, we can be healthy and happy knowing our school is providing us with safe food choices.

The last change that Terri spoke with me about was the continued changing of decor in Cavern. “We’re going to be getting new table-tops,” Terri told me, tapping on the top of the table she was sitting at. The new tables will match the new paint on the walls and new chairs. Students can also look forward to pictures of the “first” Cavern going up on the walls around the room. The pictures will act as a throwback for students to be able to imagine what Cavern used to be like when it was first created.

Talking to Terri Saunders reminded me that the staff at RC really do care about the student body, and they are constantly working to make changes that improve our experience on campus.
