{"id":3732,"date":"2018-04-20T10:00:10","date_gmt":"2018-04-20T14:00:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brackety-ack.pages.roanoke.edu\/?p=3732"},"modified":"2018-04-20T10:00:10","modified_gmt":"2018-04-20T14:00:10","slug":"ceo-club-visits-entrepreneurial-themed-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brackety-ack.com\/?p=3732","title":{"rendered":"CEO Club Visits Entrepreneurial Themed Festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Written by Bradley Bommarito<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Last Friday, April 13, a group of students in RC\u2019s Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization (CEO) club spent the day in Charlottesville, Va. for the 2018 Tom Tom Founders Festival. \u00a0Members attended several summit speeches and a panel event.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">According to a press statement, Tom Tom\u2019s signature event is a week-long festival of ideas and culture that takes place in Charlottesville, Virginia, each April in conjunction with Thomas Jefferson\u2019s birthday. This cross discipline, multi-venue experience transforms the historic downtown and empowers the innovators, who are envisioning a brighter future.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThe Tom Tom Festival was a fantastic experience, providing exposure to the facets of entrepreneurship spanning many industries. \u00a0It was great to hear the stories of those who have personified the spirit of innovation,\u201d said Luke Aprile, a CEO club member.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">According to the Foundation\u2019s website, \u201cThe Tom Tom Foundation is the nonprofit organization that hosts the annual Tom Tom Founders Festival. Supporting high-impact events throughout the year, the Foundation seeks to empower the innovators whose creativity, entrepreneurial spirit, and dedication to community help ensure a better future for cities across the nation.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In total, about 44,925 attendees and 500 speakers participated in the event. \u00a0Attendance at the festival has grown by 670% since 2012. Many of the speakers were entrepreneurs, but other guests included business executives, scholars, and even representatives of nonprofit organizations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt was an amazing experience getting to hear such successful business owners speak and getting to ask them questions,\u201d said Cassidy Sullivan, treasurer of CEO club.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The event offered opportunities to look at entrepreneurship from different perspectives. \u00a0It was also a forum in which best practices in business were explored in new contexts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThis is definitely an event RC will have to go to again. \u00a0The Tom Tom Festival offered so many learning experiences in much more than just business,\u201d said Sullivan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Tom Tom Festival is a great place for both curious millennials and aspiring entrepreneurs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cGetting to hear the success stories of fellow entrepreneurs is an empowering thing. \u00a0It makes me want to get to work right then and there on the future business ideas I have floating around in my head,\u201d said Nick Croswhite, president of CEO club.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The CEO club officer team has determined to return to the Tom Tom Festival next year. \u00a0The event would be free and open to all RC students.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe will have to make Tom Tom Festival the next great event for the club,\u201d said Croswhite.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Written by Bradley Bommarito Last Friday, April 13, a group of students in RC\u2019s Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization (CEO) club spent the day in Charlottesville, Va. for the 2018 Tom Tom Founders Festival. \u00a0Members attended several summit speeches and a panel event.
