{"id":3576,"date":"2018-02-08T23:39:14","date_gmt":"2018-02-09T04:39:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brackety-ack.pages.roanoke.edu\/?p=3576"},"modified":"2018-02-08T23:39:14","modified_gmt":"2018-02-09T04:39:14","slug":"rc-choir-and-oriana-singers-meet-broadway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brackety-ack.com\/?p=3576","title":{"rendered":"RC Choir and Oriana Singers Meet Broadway"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Written by Joseph Carrick<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Roanoke College choir and Oriana Singers gave a stellar performance of several off-Broadway songs in the aptly named production <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Off-Broadway on Campus<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> on February 3, 2018. The choir director, Dr. Jeffrey Sandborg, was thrilled to see the massive turnout for this event making the possibility of moving the event to a larger auditorium next year very plausible. 45 minutes before the production began, all five rows of seating were packed with excited visitors and students. Even after choir members willingly gave their reserved seating to accommodate the crowd, there were still a number of people standing in the back of the room. By 7:00 pm, their melodious music filled the ballroom and adjacent Atrium in the Colket Center. Sixteen songs were performed including well-known Broadway songs and several Disney pieces, some a cappella and some altogether. Some crowd favorites of the night include \u201cReflection\u201d from Disney\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mulan<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, \u201cI Hate Men\u201d from <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Kiss Me Kate<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, and \u201cRaise a Little Hell\u201d from <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Bonnie and Clyde. <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It is impossible to pick the best one when all songs were perfectly delivered. Brandt Nethercutt, freshman and student spectator, personally favored \u201cVanilla Ice Cream\u201d from <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">She Loves Me<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u2013 one of eight solo pieces. \u201cThe songs were excellent choices, and this is in part thanks to the choir members, as each singer chose their own solo piece,\u201d Nethercutt mentioned. Mary Rose Stark, one of the soloists, offered a healthy critique of her performance, but was happy nevertheless because this had been her first solo performance in a while.
