On Saturday, January 21, the men’s basketball team faced one of their rival teams the Bridgewater College Eagles. The Maroons were able to set the pace early when Daniel Eacho ’15 put the first two points on the board. Logan Singleton ’12 followed with a 3 pointer.
Unfortunately the Maroons could not hold on to their lead for much longer. Roanoke led by six in the beginning but soon the Eagles caught up and tied the game up at 12. Just when all seemed to be falling apart, Singelton ‘12 scored six straight points regaining the 18-14 lead. However, despite his efforts the Maroons went into the halftime break behind 29-27.
After the half the teams battled back and forth for the lead. Four lead changes occurred in the first few minutes of the second half. It was a valiant effort for both teams. Singleton ’12 again led the Maroons into action with nine points and six rebounds in the second half. Then Kwasi Amposah ’13 stepped up and reclaimed the lead for the Maroons 30-29.
With only ten minutes left on the clock the Maroons were trailing the Eagles 48-42 until Amponsah ’13 swished a three pointer. Unfortunately the team’s efforts could not win the game. The final score was 71-67 Eagles.
Although the team lost it was a great game to watch. Amponsah ‘13 led the game in scoring. He had 27 points, while Singleton ‘12 followed him scoring 15 points. He assisted the team with eight rebounds.
Losing to the Eagles snapped the three game winning streak against Bridgewater College for the Maroons. This season the Maroon’s overall record is 5 – 12, ODAC 1-7. After winning the game the Eagles move to 5-12, ODAC 2-6.
